Barbara Johnson McDaniel, age 89, of Birmingham, passed away in her home on October 22, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She spent her last days and moments surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Graveside services will be Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Walker Memory Gardens in Jasper, Alabama. Dr. Chris Jones will officiate.

She was born in the coal mining town of Calumet and grew up in Jasper, Alabama. Barbara attended West Jasper School and Walker County High School where she spent many happy days roller skating, swimming and playing basketball. A natural hostess, she was known for her grace and hospitality and was happiest when surrounded by her  family and her many friends. She also enjoyed many beach and mountain trips and other outings with her family. Barbara was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband-Franklin D. McDaniel; her father-Floyd Johnson, Sr.; her mother-Elva Harper Johnson; her sister-Bernice Kuykendall and her brothers-Floyd "Junie" Johnson, Jr., James Wallace Johnson and Roger Johnson.

She is survived by her daughter-Kam Wiggins (Don); her daughter-Kyla McDaniel Kortright (Ernesto); her granddaughters-Joy Hansen (Griffin), Amalia Kortright (Chris Mount) and Alexandra Kortright; and her sister-Margie Johnson Jeffries.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.
