Brenda Pickrell Casto, age 83, of Somerville, AL (formerly of Cordova, Al) passed away Sunday April 12th, 2026 at VA Hospital Birmingham.

Mrs. Casto graduated from Cordova High School in 1961. She attended St. Vincent's Nursing School where she earned her license as a Registered Nurse. She would take this training to the warfront, joining the Army's Nursing Corps in February 1967, she would be stationed and vital to The Eighth Field Hospital in Nha Trang, during the Tet Offensive. Brenda spent four years in the Army and its Reserve corps from 1967-1971 rising to the rank of Captain when she was finished.

She enjoyed dabbling in many different arts and crafts and painting her nails, but her greatest pastime was spending time with all her family whom she loved and cherished immensely.

Mrs. Casto was preceded in death by her Parents-Robert Edward and Dollie Pate Pickrell; Sister-Gail Norris (Gwyn), and Brother-Robert Edward Pickrell Jr.

She is survived by her Husband-Paul Casto; Children-Paul Casto Jr (Carrie) and Karla Jean Buckley (Tom); Sisters-Sherry Calhoun (Jack), Sunny Creel (Sam), Delores Howell, Teresa Hooban, and Tanya Tutak (Unal); Brother-Thomas Michael Pickrell; Twelve Grandchildren, Eight great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family will be having a private service at a later date.
