David Richard "Rickey" Smith "Smithman"

David Richard Smith, born April 5, 1951, in Jasper, Alabama, passed away on October 28th at UAB St. Vincent’s Hospital.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel.  Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.  Pastor Barry Lombard will officiate.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his Beloved daughter-Ricki Jill Smith; Parents-Smitty and Rushia Smith; and Father-in-law-Jimmy Miller.

He is survived by his Cherished wife of 33 years-Lisa Miller Smith; Granddaughter-Willow Brown; Mother-in-law-Hilda Miller; Sisters-Dr. Patricia Smith and Debra Jones (Dexter); Brother-Rev. Robert D. Smith (Cindy); Special nephew-Robert B. Foster; a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends, along with his constant companion, Sofie.

He retired from Drummond Coal, then opened his own company, Smith Electric.  He graduated from Cordova High School and the University of Alabama, where he played football under Coach Bear Bryant.  He was a wonderful husband, father and friend.  His life was tragically changed when he lost his only child Ricki Jill Smith, she was his life.
