Imogene Watts
Myers
Jul 28, 1928 — Mar 14, 2025
Imogene (Jean) Watts Myers, 96, of Jasper, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025.
Jean was born in Jefferson County on July 28, 1928 to Roxie and William Watts. Jean and her siblings lived with their mother and other family in Birmingham and Virginia during her childhood. In high school, she settled in Parrish, AL with her grandparents. She was a proud 1946 graduate of Parrish High School, and she loved reuniting regularly with her classmates through the years.
Shortly after graduation she met Charlie Myers. They were married March 8, 1947. They were a beautiful couple dedicated to each other and the Lord. They were faithful members of Grace Chapel Nazarene Church and later Jasper's First Nazarene Church. They committed to put Christ first in their home and never wavered in this. Charlie and Jean were blessed with a baby girl in April 1948. Linda Jean Myers was their only child and the light of their life. Jean delighted in being a mother to Linda and wife to Charlie. Their family enjoyed spending time together singing gospel music and hymns.
Linda married Jerry Redmill in 1971. Linda's life was hindered by Lupus, and she died prematurely in 1982. This was crushing for Jean as she lost her only child. Jerry remained close to Charlie and Jean. When he remarried in 1984 to Reidie Crump, Jean and Charlie adopted them into their family as their surrogate children. In 1986 when their daughter Beth was born, she was their pride and joy, their only grandchild. Many adventures were had and precious memories made with Charlie, Jean and Beth over the years.
Charlie transitioned to Heaven in 2000. This was very hard for Jean, but she was blessed with family, church family, and countless friends to help her through this long, dark season. Jean loved to decorate, sew, craft, gather with friends, garden, and travel. She was the quintessential southern lady. She also cared for her mother daily until she passed at the age of 105 in 2010.
As time progressed, dementia slowly took its toll. She lived at HarborChase in Jasper for the final 13 years of her life. Her care was excellent, and her family is forever grateful for each and every member of their team who cared for her over the years. Gentiva Hospice also provided care in her latter years and the family would like to express their appreciation for their wonderful service as well.
Jean was preceded in death by her mother Roxie Strickland, husband Charles Edward Myers, daughter Linda Myers Redmill, and siblings Herb Watts and Jewel Owens. She is survived by her son-in-law Jerry Redmill and his wife Reidie, granddaughter Beth Redmill Richardson (Adam), and great-grandchildren Anna Liz and Reid Richardson.
A graveside service will be held Friday, March 21, 2025 at 11:00AM at Walker Memory Gardens in Jasper. Greg Tinker will officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Neil Banks, Jeff Donaldson, Jimmy Hunt, Walter McLain, John Redmill, and Adam Richardson. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Gideons International.
