James Allen Hunter, 89, of Forestdale, passed away in Gardendale on June 16, 2024, after a long illness.

A family viewing will be held on June 19th at 12:30 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home in Jasper followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Sardis Cemetery on the River Road. Bill Edd Gilbert will officiate.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents Harless and Drucilla Hunter; brothers Claude Taylor, Dewey Hunter, and Edgar Hunter; and sister Elizabeth Hunter Holsombeck.

Allen is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Barton Hunter; son Russ Hunter (Beth); grandson Kirk; and sister Christine Hunter Sanders.

Allen graduated from Cordova High School and entered the Army, serving as a crypto analyst in Korea. He retired as a machinist from Goslin Manufacturing. He enjoyed fishing, Alabama football, and working around the house. He will be deeply missed.
