Robert F.
"Bob" Raines
Apr 13, 1937 — Mar 23, 2025
Robert F. "Bob" Raines of Jasper, Alabama, passed away Sunday, March 23rd, surrounded by family. He was 87 years old.
Funeral arrangements will be held at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, 303 Oak Hill Rd, Jasper, AL 35504 on Thursday, March 27th, with visitation from 11 to 1 with the service to follow and burial at Walker Memory Gardens.
Bob is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Wes (Rhonda), Jim (Katie), and Ron (Heather); grandchildren, Jessica (Dylan), Ginny (Austin), Alex (Shelby), Charlee, Dani, Robbie (Halle), Gracie Beth (Drake), Heath, Ethan, Trevor, and Allison; great-grandchildren Ellis, Ryleigh, Ella-Brooke, and Ryker Bo; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ina and Earl Raines; in-laws, Grace and Alvin Harris; brothers, Tom and Ralph; and grandchildren, Jay and Tonya.
Born and raised in Dora, AL, Bobby grew up one of three boys, attending and graduating Dora High School in 1955. After graduation, he attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn) with his older brother, Tommy, where Bob played trombone and Tommy played trumpet. When Helen, his lifelong love, graduated high school in 1957, the boys came home, and Bob and Helen were wed January 25, 1958.
In 1960, Bob and Helen took over the family business, a little 10-lane bowling alley called Rainbow Lanes in Dora. He expanded the business in 1965 after the birth of his eldest son, Wesley, and moved the family to Jasper, working towards reviving the town's small bowling alley. When the State moved in to expand Highway 78 in 1970, Bob made the decision to combine the two businesses and move all operations to the Jasper location. Within a couple of years, the family, now with the additions of Jimmy and Ronnie, moved the business to its current location at 270 Highway 5.
Bob was a people's person. He never met a stranger and had a way of drawing you in with a story and chuckle. This came in handy on all his and Helen's adventures from cross-country road trips to international treks to Greece back to 'Bama where you could find Bob cheering on his Auburn Tigers any day of the week. He was also a dreamer. If he could dream it, he'd either get it done or find a nice bucket to sit on to supervise. Many a days were spent by his boys, and later on grandkids, completing a project for Poppy.
Pallbearers include his grandsons Robbie, Heath, Ethan, Alex, Drake, and Trevor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sumiton Methodist Church, P.O. Box 546, Sumiton, AL 35148.
